DISTRIBUTION:

Xylophanes mossi moths fly in Brazil (specimen type locality): Para.

Very similar to Xylophanes rufescens but the forewing upperside uniform rust-brown (the shadings and scattered darker patches of that species greatly reduced or entirely absent), all other pattern elements also reduced or absent. CATE

most likely just a (bred) form of Xylophanes rufescens.

FLIGHT TIMES:

Xylophanes mossi adults probably fly as continuous broods.

ECLOSION:

Pupae probably wiggle to surface from subterranean chambers just prior to eclosion.

SCENTING AND MATING:

Females call in the males with a pheromone released from a gland at the tip of the abdomen.

EGGS, LARVAE, PUPAE:

Larvae probably feed on plants in the Rubiaceae family and Malvaceae families.

Moths emerge approximately one-two months after larvae pupate.
