DISTRIBUTION:

Nyceryx continua cratera (wingspan: approximately 56-72mm) flies in
Peru: the specimen type locality, Junin (662m) (VI);
Venezuela: Bolivar: Sierra de Lema (1090m) (JRAC);
Bolivia: LaPaz (750m);
Argentina: Misiones (ALBCOL), possibly Jujuy (Schmit et all 2004 (EB)); and
Brazil: Bahia, Roio de Janeiro, Parana, Sao Paulo, Santa Catarina, Rio Grande de Sol (ALBCOL).

It is probably the nominate subspecies that flies in Paraguay, Argentina and Brazil.

FLIGHT TIMES:

Moths are probably on the wing in just about every month. Reports from Bolivia are for August. Vladimir Izersky reports them in Peru in November.

Peter Bruce-Jones reports a June flight in Shima, Junin, Peru. Jose Ramon Alvarez Corral reports a September flight in Venezuela.

ECLOSION:

Adults eclose, usually within three weeks.

SCENTING AND MATING:

Females call in the males with a pheromone released from a gland at the tip of the abdomen.
