DISTRIBUTION:

Manduca contracta (wingspan approximately 95-105mm), flies in
Bolivia (specimen type locality): Santa Cruz, La Paz (450-750m); and in
Argentina Buenos Aires, Corrientes, Jujuy (NV), Salta, Tucuman; and
probably in Uruguay.

FLIGHT TIMES:

Manduca contracta adults fly in February-March-April-May, July, November-December.

Both males and females come to lights.

ECLOSION:

Pupae probably wiggle to surface from subterranean chambers just prior to eclosion.

SCENTING AND MATING:

Females call in the males with a pheromone released from a gland at the tip of the abdomen. Adults take nectar from flowers.
