DISTRIBUTION:

Catocala praeclara manitoba (wingspan: mm), flies in Montana, and in Canada in Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba.

This moth is now (2010) treated as a subspecies of praeclara.

Catocala praeclara manitoba flies as a single generation with moths on the wing from .

The Catocala praeclara manitoba caterpillar feeds on poplar and willow.

ECLOSION:

Adults eclose from pupae formed under leaf litter.

SCENTING AND MATING:

Catocala praeclara manitoba females emit an airbourne pheromone and males use their antennae to track the scent plume.
